WOODBRIDGE DISTRICT SCHOOL
MARINE DISCOVERY CENTRE
The Woodbridge Marine Discovery Centre is a valuable regional marine environment education facility.
Originally the buildings were the D’Entrecasteaux Channel scalloping sheds that were repurposed as a learning centre. It was increasingly at risk of inundation due to increasing height of high tides at a greater frequency.
Due to the combination of the unique location and local planning regulations it was not feasible to build a new facility.
The project required developing a feasible lifting methodology to raise the building 1.5m, rebuild the concrete aquarium, a new accessible entry and associated works.
The lifting was successfully completed utilising a coordinated hydraulic jack/prop process with minimal disturbance to the fragile coastal ecosystem.
