TASTAFE HUON VALLEY

Huon Valley Trade Training Centre is a new Trade Training facility in Huonville, providing vocational qualification pathways for Aquaculture, Automotive, Electro-Technology, Plumbing, Construction, Wood Machining, Metals and Engineering, Hospitality and Horticulture.

The design incorporates a palette of locally available industrial materials, such as: precast concrete, steel portal frames and sheet metal cladding, which is in contrast to the workshops that accommodate complex machines and plant/equipment. The spaces are full of natural light and integrated services to provide best practice, contemporary vocational training. Sustainability innovations incorporate: stormwater harvesting for reuse and reticulation for aquaculture and horticulture, wetlands filtration, heat recovery, retention of site excavation, carbon offset planting, hydroponic nutrient recovery, teaching programs, including facility environmental management, and community use for endemic plant species propagation for vegetation regeneration programmes across southern Tasmania.
